New Naturalist: Reptiles and Amphibians (The New Naturalist)
Trevor Beebee, Richard Griffiths
Collins
ISBN: 0002200848
The most authoritative guide to British herps. The subject of ecology
and herps is dealt with comprehensively, inclusing accounts of why some
British herps are endangered. There are also accounts of how some introduced
species have managed to survive our inclement weather, and the extent
to which they could pose a threat to 'native' species. Herp-human relationships
throughout history are described in detail, including legends linking
herps to witches. The book is very well illustrated, with drawings and
colour photos. This is the paperback edition. The hardback edition costs
around a tenner more (which is more than ten euros more), and is below,
for those of you who are feeling flush (translation for non-English speaking
Europeans, 'flush' = 'confident about one's financial state').

Little Book of Monitor Lizards
Daniel Bennett
Viper
ISBN 0952663201
This is a book for the serious enthusiast! It is expensive, and the title
is ironic, since it is a comprehensive reference book for those interested

aggressive, and this book helps to tackle and avoid problems with handling
them. It's worth the investment if you plan to keep monitor lizards over
a long period, since it will save you buying introductory guides that
